WELCOME TO ROCKFISH PRODUCTION!

4 min read

The mission of RockFish Church is to “Make, Equip, and Release fully committed followers of Jesus Christ” and the Production Team aims to help this mission through the technical support of all church services, special events, and ministries. If someone needs a microphone or a stage light on, Production is there to help. Our biggest task though is in the support of church services, where we aim to minimize distractions and help foster an environment where people can be free to worship and hear the Gospel preached.

It is important to remember that when we are volunteering, we are not simply operating equipment, but serving God. When our work is done “for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31), and “in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Colossians 3:17), our work becomes an act of worship. Our work, our service, however grand or trivial, is ministry.

📍STARTING POINT

To serve on the Production Team, all 4 classes of Starting Point must be completed. These classes take place every Sunday at 12:10pm at all sites. Once you finish Starting Point, you will be able to fill out a membership and volunteer application, which (once approved) will allow you to serve on the Production Team.

🟢PLANNING CENTER SERVICES

We use a service called “Planning Center Services” for all communication and coordination to support a church service. Planning Center allows us to schedule you to a position, and allows you to let us know whether you can make it or not. We also have the audio files of the worship songs we will be playing, as well as the order of service for every church service. It is also the go to way to be able to easily reach out to us with any questions or comments. The following video gives a breakdown on how to download and use the app.

📋PRODUCTION TEAM ROLES

It takes a lot of different people doing a lot of different things to make a church service happen with minimal distractions. If everything is going well, most people aren’t even aware of all the things we are doing in the background. Below is an exhaustive list of all the positions on the Production Team and what each position does. When you serve in RockFish Production, it will be in one of the following roles.

Tech Booth Roles

  • Media Operator – The media operator is responsible for managing all visual content displayed on screens throughout the service, including lyrics, sermon slides, videos, and announcements.
  • Lighting Operator – The lighting operator sets the visual tone and atmosphere that supports worship and enhances the overall experience. They manage lighting cues, ensuring key areas of the stage are well lit.
  • Sound Engineer – The sound engineer delivers clear, balanced, and high-quality audio to the congregation and online viewers. They are responsible for mixing vocals, instruments, and microphones, ensuring that every word and note is heard without distraction.
  • Camera Operator – The camera operator helps capture the experience for both in-person and online attendees. They use different camera angles and timing to create a visually pleasing camera shot.
  • Switcher – The video switcher is responsible for managing the live video, seamlessly switching between multiple cameras, graphics, and videos to create a smooth and dynamic broadcast. Switchers collaborate closely with the camera operators and producer to ensure a cohesive and engaging viewing experience for those tuning in online.
  • Producer – The producer oversees the entire production team, coordinating camera operators, video switchers, sound engineers, lighting, and media to ensure a smooth and cohesive service.

More Roles

  • Photographer – The Photographer is dedicated to capturing “Life at RockFish Church”. This includes capturing baptism photos, baby dedications, Worship, Sermons, fellowship, and so much more. The photographer helps ensure that important moments are captured, allowing the church to relive and share the experience.
  • Online Host – The Online Host(s) manages our livestreams on Church Online. Individuals in this position will engage with people in the chat, moderate the chat to make sure everyone is safe, as well as answer prayer requests and pray with people.
  • Designer  The Designer plays a key role in preparing the visual and technical elements of the church service throughout the week. They prepare all graphics, lyrics and sermon slides, and lighting cues to ensure everything is ready and visually cohesive before services.

TRAINING

Tech may be intimidating at first, but we provide training for all positions on the team; no prior experience is required. No matter the position, the training process looks similar across the board. Each position has a dedicated training course on this site for you to get a introduction to the position. Training starts by going through the course at your own pace. Then you will be scheduled with an experienced team member in that position who you will shadow and learn from until you are comfortable enough to run the equipment. After which we will have you operate while an experienced team member shadows behind you to answer any questions and make sure you are comfortable. Only then will we release you into the wild to serve on your own!

EXPECTATIONS

  • Be sure to print a sticker from the volunteer check-in station anytime you are scheduled, and only on the days you are scheduled. This is mandatory, and helps us track who is volunteering that day, and gives you access to the volunteer break room.
  • Some positions require you to be at our worship rehearsals, but most only require you to be there for the service. We ask that you arrive 10-15 minutes before your scheduled service time to prep and get ready!
  • When scheduled, we ask that you please accept or decline your requests in a timely manner. Remaining unconfirmed leaves us in the dark on whether you can make it or not.
  • If you find out you cannot make it for a time you are scheduled, we ask that you please notify us in a timely manner (at least a day in advance). this gives us time to find a suitable replacement for the position.
